"Reparations Now!" Caribbean Art Exhibition Opportunity

The Caribbean visual arts community is invited to participate in the upcoming exhibition titled CRJ10PP: Recognition. Justice. Development, which will run from January to February 2025. This significant event will be hosted in physical galleries in Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago, along with a virtual showcase on The Artiverse.


Funded by the Caribbean Culture Fund, this exhibition seeks to engage with the theme of reparations, drawing from the CARICOM 10-Point Plan for Reparatory Justice. Artists are encouraged to submit works that reflect historical injustices, social justice movements, collective healing, and envision reconciliation and restitution.


Exhibition Theme: Reparations and the CARICOM 10-Point Plan

Inspired by the CARICOM 10-Point Plan, the exhibition aims to educate the public, promote healing, and mobilize action toward reparatory justice. Artists can explore the plan’s key elements, which address the need for justice and restitution across the Caribbean. Submission Guidelines:


1. Eligibility:

Open to Caribbean artists or those of Caribbean descent working in any visual art medium, including painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, textiles, ceramics, and more. Artists from Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago are particularly encouraged to submit.


2. Theme:

Submissions must reflect on the concept of reparations, using the CARICOM 10-Point Plan as a guide. Artists are invited to explore diverse interpretations and perspectives on reparatory justice.


3. Submission Process:

Artists may submit up to five (5) artworks.

Each submission must include a short artist statement (max. 250 words) explaining its relevance to the theme.

Works should not exceed 96” in any dimension.

Submit high-quality images of the artwork in JPEG format, along with information such as title, size, medium, and price (if for sale).

Video or digital works should include platform links (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).


4. Deadline: November 30, 2024. Selected artists will be notified by December 15, 2024.


Exhibition Format:

The exhibition will be displayed for at least one week in each physical gallery across Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. Additionally, selected works will be featured in The Artiverse virtual gallery.


Sales:

Artists may choose to make their works available for sale. Sales arrangements and commission details will be shared upon selection.


No Participation Fee:

There is no fee to participate, but artists are responsible for framing, preparing, delivering, and collecting their artworks.
